The Newberry Consort

The acclaimed and nationally known Newberry Consort, will come to Indianapolis for a free concert on March 20. This group, whose music has a broad appeal, features David Douglass, Renaissance violin, Ellen Hargis, soprano, and Dieter Hennings, lute and theorbo. They will present A Musicall Banquet.  During the Renaissance, English and Italian cultures cross-fertilized to produce a musical repertory that united the best qualities of both, and were the focus of John Dowland's 1610 publication, A Musicall Banquet. The concert is sponsored by Indianapolis Early Music, formerly known as Festival Music Society.

The Newberry Consort will serve a multi-course meal of this fusion cuisine, songs, ballads, dances and improvised art music, including music by Angelo Notari, Thomas Lupo, John Coperario, Nicholas Lanier, and Daniel Batchelor, in addition to the music of John Dowland.

This event will take place in Indianapolis at the Universalist Unitarian Church at 615 W. 43rd Street at 3:00. The concert will be a free event with a free will offering suggested. As always, a reception with the artists will follow. For advance reservations in the reserved section please contact the FMS/IEM office at fms@iquest.net or 317 577-9731.

This Spring event will be the kick-off for our marketing and visibility efforts for the Indianapolis Early Music Festival, now in its 44th year, taking place over three weekends from June 23-July 24 at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick History Center in downtown Indianapolis.
