I Don't Want to Love
Madrigals of Claudio Monteverdi
Audiences love ARTEK concerts for their exciting, dramatic performances of baroque music, with compelling musical settings of beautiful poetry and infectious dance rhythms that infuse the performances with vitality and spirit. The ensemble specializes in the music of the great early seventeenth-century.
Monteverdi's madrigals are the perfect foil for ARTEK's gifts - from the purely vocal beauty of a cappella madrigals from Book 5 to the exuberant accompanied madrigals from Books 7 and 8. ARTEK will present a variety of Monteverdi's most eloquent madrigals on the many themes of love that still speak to us today - desire, betrayal, ardor, playfulness, jealousy, and more. ARTEK's virtuoso singers will be joined by a sumptuous continuo accompaniment of keyboard and multiple lutes.
